The Planck Universe
Imagine if you could hold the entire universe in the palm of your hand. At one point in time, this would have been possible. There is a concept in cosmology known as “The Planck Universe”. It goes off of the ideas that if the universe that we live in is ever expanding and growing, then at one point, everything we possibly know would fit not only in the palm of your hand, but would fit at the smallest unit of measurement imaginable (A Planck). From here, as the cosmos expanded over billions upon billions of years, we get … you.
I find thinking about this stuff incredibly fascinating, for the following reasons….
It shows that even though we have come so far as a species, there is still more to learn and so much more that we still don’t understand. We often will become trapped in the bubbles of our own community and consumed with the hubris of our own accomplishments that we forget how much we still don’t know about how the world works.
And two, it shows that you being here is a domino effect of random chances that have taken place over the course of over a billion years. Some might view that perspective as simply an accident. That we are simply no different than fungus growing on a rock in space.
While others look at the tremendous odds of you being here in the first place as a gift with a purpose, and feel empowered by that very notion to give their life meaning.
